Welcome to the 2026 APHL Newborn Screening Awards Nomination Platform!

We are excited to be honoring those individuals in our community who have gone above-and-beyond to support, strengthen and champion the newborn screening (NBS) system! If your colleague, peer, mentor, friend, or if a family, patient, advocate or individual in your community has made a significant impact in the realm of NBS, please consider submitting a nomination.

Before You Begin

To submit a nomination, you will need to have an APHL online account. If you do not have an account, you can create one by clicking "Create Account" in the top right of this page. If you have questions related to your account or APHL’s NBS Awards Program, please contact Dara Slavin at dara.slavin@aphl.org.

Nomination Considerations

  • The nomination portal will close on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 11:59 pm EST.
  • All entries must be submitted through the platform. Entries not submitted through the platform will not be considered.
  • You can revisit any incomplete nomination forms at your convenience upon login to the awards site.
  • A person may not nominate more than one candidate per award period.
  • Self-nominations are not accepted.
  • Previous winners of the award are ineligible for nomination. For a list of past awardees, please visit our website.
  • Previous winners of the International Society of Neonatal Screening awards are ineligible for nomination.

How to Nominate

Please read this list of instructions in its entirety before proceeding to next steps.
  1. Create your APHL online account if you do not already have one.
  2. Click “User Login” to log into the application portal using your account email address and password.
  3. Explore our award nomination categories and review award descriptions and considerations prior to choosing an appropriate category for your nominee.
  4. Review the nominator and nominee qualifications and requirements for the award to ensure eligibility.
  5. Complete the nomination form for the award.
  6. Save and submit the nomination form. You will receive a confirmation pop up message if submitted correctly.

Decision Process

  • Nominations will be solicited, and awardees will be selected by the Newborn Screening Symposium (NBSS) Planning Committee of the 2026 APHL NBSS. Voting will take place on the platform.
  • If no nominations for outstanding contributions are received or if those nominated are deemed without merit, the Planning Committee may not present an award.
  • Nominations, selection discussions and accompanying materials will be kept confidential.
  • Nominators and awardees will be notified of the status of their nomination in advance on the 2026 APHL NBSS.

Announcement of Award

  • Award recipients will be announced at the 2026 APHL NBSS.
  • The announcement will be accompanied by a brief biography of the recipient and an explanation of their contributions.
  • The recipient will have the opportunity to make a brief acceptance speech.
